In his arrangements Prokofiev selected lyrical and dramatic moments from his original compositions, transferring their characteristic elements to the piano and using the motifs of the various ballet figures to create a plastic image of the characters. Pianist Lev Vinocour (b. 1970, St. Petersburg) is a Russian pianist now living in Germany. He began his studies at the St. Petersburg Conservatory at the age of six and went on to graduate with honors from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. Vinocour's incredible roster of teachers and mentors has included Mikhail Pletnev, Alexis Weissenberg, Leon Fleisher, Murray Perahia, Charles Rosen, Grigory Sokolov, Karl-Ulrich Schnabel, and Arnaldo Cohen. At the age of thirteen, Lev Vinocour played Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Leningrad Philharmonic, conducted by Evgeny Mravinsky. He has won prizes in many competitions, and has also recorded several successful CDs.« less
