This Should Be The Today's Pop Star's Bible
CHEWIE | 02/08/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"While this isn't Prince's best "1999" has probally influenced the most artists. Katty Perry, Lady Gaga, and Ke$ha can only attempt at being this shocking and crazy. The main theme to "1999" is having fun because life is short. While "Dirty Mind" gave Prince a cult following this is what made Prince a star.

The good side to "1999" that it shows off Prince's skills. The first three songs were huge hits. It opens with the crazy title track. The song starts off with members of The Revolution singing and finally Prince takes lead. At the end there is a little girl going "Mommy why does everyone have a bomb?" The song is actually protesting nucleur war and saying that why should have fun while we are living. Next, comes up "Little Red Corvette" one of Prince's signature songs. This was Prince's first Top 10 hit and proved he was going to be huge. "Delirious" pops up next and was another Top 10 hit. It is one my favorites and is interesting to listen to with the squeking sounds. The following songs are very experimental and not for the radio. Prince sings about being confused about God, freedom, and bashing hipsters - I am not joking.

The bad side to "1999" is that Prince might of been showing off a little to much. Could of the album been edited down a little? Maybe. But it is all great so it doesn't really matter too much.

In conclusion, this is one of Prince's best and is very essential. It also proves that Prince is the best pop artist and the King of Funk."
