Album Description"Eric Arn and the Undermind have put together another quality mindbender, a concisely trippy work recommended for anyone interested in pursuing new and more colorful methods of rock." - AUSTIN CHRONICLE "Eric Arn has led Primordial Undermind through several incarnations and as many musical evolutions, none of them interchangeable but all, in their ways, vastly rewarding." - ALL TIME MUSIC Eric Arn and his Primordial Undermind has tirelessly mined the nether-regions of avant psych-rock vigilantly for the past fifteen years. Throughout the eighties, Arn cut his teeth in the legendary Crystallized Movements, the Twisted Village flagship band that also spawned Magic Hour and Major Stars (Wayne Rogers & Kate Village). With a wealth of 7" singles and a number of compilation appearances throughout the nineties--plus albums for September Gurls, Camera Obscura, and Emperor Jones--the Primordial Undermind trajectory has grown and evolved with each outing. A rotating membership came to typify the band, and a restlessness to stay put in one soundform denotes a steady progression from distorted, psychedelic Nuggets-esque overload to full-blown free instrumental rock, and everything in between. Just before relocating from Austin, Texas to Vienna, Austria in late 2004, Arn engaged in a furious series of studio sessions with his Austin crew. The results have been honed down to a fantastic new album entitled Loss of Affect, the most outré document of the Primordial Undermind sound to date. Cosmic ethno-drone mantra, avant acoustic, and free acid-rock magma explosions adorned with various woodwinds, shakers, bells, and other instrumental ephemera provide evidence of a sharp left turn for the band. Loss of Affect is a seriously colorful feather in the cap for Primordial Undermind, ushering rock music outside for some truly complex and rapturously liberated explorations in sound.
