I know how he does it, and I'm even more blown away.

"I first learned about Preston at the National Guitar Summer Workshop where he was one of the instructors. I think everyone there was completely enthralled--both the guitar students and our non-player spouses alike. Its hard to describe, but Preston has created a unique approach to the acoustic guitar. There are other players who tap on the fretboard with both hands, but nobody has taken it to the extremes that Preston has. He creates incredibly complex polyrythmic grooves by tapping, sliding, and hitting the sides & soundboard of his guitar. It might sound a bit gimmicky, but it is totally compelling to listen to. He rocks. After attending a class with Preston every day for a week, several of the other students could actually play a bit of "Tribe." At least it had started to make sense. To actually make a living creating and performing this music, though, I think you need more than a little genius--perhaps a slightly mad form of genius. Not very many have the multi-tasking brain necessary to create such an intricate solo performance. It's more percussive than melodic--the groove is the message. If that doesn't make sense to you, it will after you've listened to this exceptional performer."
HOW DOES HE DO IT?

"Simply put, Preston Reed has invented a level of tapping & two handed technique on the acoustic guitar that is completely original. There have been players in the past that have tapped and used two hand fretting, but Reed has taken this technique to new levels with great success. Frankly, it really has a lot of rhythm and is genius, awesome. He IS THE REIGNING KING OF two-handed, tapping on guitar right now...This CD is simply amazing, you've never hear anything like this before. If you ever get a chance to see him play his guitar with this technique in a live setting, go see it, it "smacks" at surrealism and "freak show" at times. You cant believe what your seeing...Like I said its amazing....Preston Reed has truly taken the guitar and is "doing it his way...."."
A long way!

"I was first exposed to Preston Reed when I saw him on a public TV show in Connecticut playing songs from his Pointing Up! album. I was blown away at the time and my Dad picked up the album for me at one of Preston's shows (which Preston was kind enough to autograph). I was used to this style of guitar from Preston especially after wearing out that album and the Playing By Ear CD completely. When I first heard Metal I was blown away and I need to check to verify that there were not 2 guys out there named Preston Reed. This CD shows the diverse mix of style and sound that Preston has developed over the years. He has progressed a very long way and for the better too. This CD quickly became one of my favorites and it is well worth the listen."
