80s synth pop revival at its finest

"One night in 1984, when Tears for Fears and Depeche Mode were recording albums in adjoining London studios, Roland Orzabal ran into Martin Gore out by the vending machine and this recently unearthed collaboration was the result. OK, not really, but that's what it sounds like to me, even though this superb track comes from a classically-trained Australian duo in 2008. I love it. With its urgent beat, piercing synths and melodramatic vocals, this is 80s synth pop revival at its finest - a guilty pleasure for thirtysomethings like me who hate most dance music but occasionally enjoy feeling fourteen again. But it's also, I'd hope, something that might entice Gen-Y listeners who must surely by now be tired of the self-indulgent, materialistic inanities of R&B."
