"Arthur Campbell's first solo CD combines stunning technique and gorgeous tone with compelling new compositions. All of the selections, which were expressly written for Campbell by highly acclaimed composers (Augusta Read Thomas, Shulamit Ran, and others) not only give the listener a challenge of the mind, but are pleasing to the ear as well."Cantos from the Inferno" by Bruce Saylor is a finely crafted piece. It not only succeeds as an interesting contemporary work, but could hold its own in a program alongside Brahms or other masterworks for the clarinet.Campbell, who apparently moved from Canada to the U.S. for study at Northwestern to study with the world class teacher Robert Marcellus, gives a spectacular performance, displaying both impressive technical prowess and warm, rich, full tone. He gives all the compositions on the CD an excellent treatment, which is to be expected where all the pieces were written for him directly. All in all this CD is a great addition to any clarinetists library, and for any classical music lover's collection as well."
