"This disc is a charming, low-cost way to get to know some interesting, unknown Mendelssohn in sensible performances and sound. The reason to buy this disc are Mendelssohn's Preludes and Fugues which are graceful, worthy successors to Bach's. While Felix doesn't plumb the depths Bach does, his fugues float along serenely--reminding us of the wonderful purity of the form. Discover International CDs have proven a pleasant surprise to me. They tend to have interesting, out-of-the-way repertoire played competantly in solid if unspectacular sound. Given how rare some of the pieces they record are, music lovers ought to support their efforts. This disc is a good place to start."
