CD ReviewsSounding Armageddon D. Braden | Denver, CO | 03/03/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "Formally known as Downpour, this band has done nothing but improve in sound, content, musicality, originality, and sheer fury. Call Me Armageddon is 10 amazing tracks that teeter on the edge of collapse, but somehow manage to hang on long enough to explode into brilliant melodic heaviness. The album begins with a bang and retains it's frenetic intensity throughout, though it does back off a little in its second half to make way for the slow, icey heaviness of "Heavy Winds and High Sea," "East," and "Year of the Fear." At times, the music rivals Converge in its stripped-down esoteric chaos, while other times it recalls Isis in its carefully structured rises and falls. Needless to say, it's highly recommended for fans of either band. This is probably one of the most powerful albums of 2004 - the lyrics are poetic and political, the performance is flawless, the artwork (courtesy of Converge's Jake Bannon) is stunning, and the genius of the songwriting speaks for itself. Though criminally underappreciated, this album will certainly go down as a modern classic, sure to influence a whole generation of musicians."
