Early Porter

"Bear Family released this box set of four CD's. This one covers the early years of the great Porter Wagoner; a man that needs no introduction. This era of Porter is before the sequin covered suits or the duet period with Dolly. This is just straight forward Porter, and it doesn't disappoint. As usual, there's a fine detailed booklet covering his early career. While the sound is obviously superb, the best part of this collection is the insight into the early Porter Wagoner sound, when he was closely copying the voice and stylings of Hank Williams. There is the inclusion of the "Gospel" standards that Porter made famous, as well as the better known songs, such as "Old Jess", "Wasted Years", and "Misery Loves Company". You will definately enjoy this collection; especially if you're into the golden era of true Country Music. It would be imposiible to improve upon this box set. A+"
