"Rubinstein has such an amazing combination-- the flare and fire of a passionate and seasoned concert pianist, but the intimacy as if he were playing it just for you. I appreciate his pearly execution of Chopin's runs-- he never lets them interfere with the unique texture, so reminiscent of water. I have a couple of gripes... the first Nocturne is played with a little twist-- he makes the opening notes in the right hand into octaves. I like it better as written, but that's just my opinion. There are a few nocturnes that seem to have some kind of noise in the background-- granted he did record these in the 30's, but I was still a little surprised-- especially on the F# Major. Even with a few things less than ideal, I'm really enjoying the CD and find such a beauty of atmosphere in my home when I play it. I highly recommend, but will probably keep my eyes open for other recordings of the F#."
