"For those of you coming directly from Skinny Puppy to this, it may be a bit of a shock. But for those of you who have been following the works of Cevin Key during and after Skinny Puppy, this will make sense. He has covered the bases of industrial, noise, electronic, and now, with Plateau, they tread into a world that borders on techno. It is brilliantly done, the songs go between rich emotional sounds to precisely calculated logic, it is both relaxing and envigorating. It at times borders on trance, takes roots from electronica, and uses techno beats.....quite lovely. Not a dissapointment at all for me, but know what you are getting into, and the history behind it."
I think the editorial reviewer is the Automaton

"Cevin Key has consistantly put out some of the richest textures of any artist working in electronic music. The automatons are those who think that anything outside the narrowly constructed mainstream sounds "weird." In essence they are the ones who have been programmed to think and hear within narrow definitions of what is music. Cevin Key continues to progress and explore new ground, never stagnating. Music for Grassbars is meticulous in structure, and can groove with the best. There is much to discover in the evolution of this album. Let the real Automatons listen to another regurgatated piece of garbage by Mariah Carey and think themselves fulfilled."
One of my all time favorite works involving cevin key

"This is AMAZING! All the tracks are named appropriately! The editorial review has got to go, obviously this reviwer hasn't got the intellegence or patience to appreciate this genre of sound. There are alot of others who do. I actually do love it and would say while not much of an accesible mainstream album , it will be enjoyed by those who like wacky minimal/breakbeat semi abstract beat/sample generation dark mellow techno mixed up with some fine herbs."
Groovy Experimental Flavour

"PlatEAU's first release - You can feel cEvin's pervious project "DOWNLOAD" maturing through this stylization of 4/4 beat play, crossing genre's of techno drum construction, down tempo snare work, and incredibly experimental ambient backdrops, this album seriously makes you feel like you're sparking up at a Grass Bar. [ Not to mention: this album's incredible depth while under the influence of illict substance's you'd ATTAIN AT A GRASS BAR :) ] 04- Crypto is hands down one of the hardest pieces on the album, blurring noisey strings and rhythmic bass drums, to produce an intoxicating feeling of invigoration. That's pretty much how the whole album carries itself, each track gets you closer and closer to the edge of 07- chateau PlatEAU, and when it's all over you're left with the overwhelming 11- stench , that could only be Music for Grassbars.
A Must Have for fans of Key's side projects, or industrial fans for that matter."
Key Mastery

"Plateau is the sound of Key moving on, maturing, musically. The only thing that remains the same is Key's deftness at making music, as "Grassbars" stands up to any of the more obscure releases in the electronic beats genre. "Music for Grass Bars," is a natural progression from later Puppy and Download--matter of fact, "Download III" might as well be a Plateau CD! Plateau CDs can go from Farmers Manual like glitchcraft to We-like beated tripiness, and all with great ease. As a Plateau/Download/Key fan, I can't wait to hear the upcoming "Space Cake"!"
