CD ReviewsOne "Last" Hoorah... Tony Voda | Wyoming, MN USA | 05/07/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "If this truly ends up to be the last TPC record, then it is nice to go out on top. TPC are the latest to carry the torch of Minnesota's "indie-rock" scene, previously held by Lifter Puller; and they have also declared their successors, The Shoe-Shiners (who opened for them at their last show at First Ave). Now I could go on and on about both the record and the stellar last show, but I will keep this review on the straight and narrow.
I gave this album 5 stars because it deserves it, just like the band themselves. The growth in their albums have led to a "perfect album"; not one that is perfect in every way, but one where you can listen to every song, enjoy it, and not ever hit the skip button. I definitely have my favorites on this album ("Floated Down & Flew Around", "Stay That Way", "Black Market Pandas", "So Many Friends"), but each one has my attention when their turn in line comes. And since this is the (as of now) last hoorah, you realize that the band is like the best friend you took for granted as you grew up together. You find them very fun, connect on different levels, and just want to hang out with them, never realizing there are bigger things in life until... Then you learn that your new friend is moving on to bigger and better things (college, a job in the big city, wife & kids), which is both great and yet upsetting. You almost feel betrayed, "Why would they leave you after such good times together?" But you realize that they have to go and that it wasn't anything to do with you, and who knows, maybe you'll meet again down the road. And for the time being you are left with the memories (these songs) that you can play over and over again (and never be sick of them). Thank you TPC for the great times. You've given us more than what most can ever give, 4 albums, 1 EP, and loads of top notch performances. Good luck with your dreams, and hopefully we will come together and meet again!!" |
