"Very moody melodic rock in the spirit of Shadow King, Bruce Turgon's work with Foreigner, etc. With the different layers in each song, you don't get the full effect until you hear them a few times over. This will most likely be the best cd of the year in my book..."

""Places of Power" is the alliance of bass player Bruce Turgon (ex "Shadow King") and vocalist Philip Bardowell ("Unruly Child"). According to credits, all songs were composed evenly by the duo while the guitar parts were recorded by Scott McKinstry.
The record company behind this release, "Frontiers" claims that "Now is the hour" is an "arena" hard rock release, yet in actuality this is probably AOR. Some may claim that both terms describe the same music, yet the truth and the matter is that the album kicks off with a power HRock track in the likes of "In your wildest dreams" (featuring a seemingly endless chorus) while continuing with much softer/smoother songs.
The overall quality of the album is definitely high. But personally speaking, it is the heavier songs of this release such as "One Day", "Make me believe" and "In your wildest dreams" that do the trick; (while overshadowing the rest of the album one has to admit).
Naturally, the observations above are minor details for hard core "Shadow King" fans who have probably ordered already this album. Still if you feel uncertain of weather this album will stand up to your expectations, you could check the band's promo video for "In your wildest dreams" issued by "frontiers records":
