"As a 'sometimes' listener to KMZT (K-Mozart) in Southern California, I occasionally get lucky and find something a little different. Federico Mompou (performed by Artur Pizarro) was that 'something.' I stumbled upon it on a Thursday night back in 2000. The selected only lasted 1:10, but it has stayed with me ever since. I promptly went out, got lucky and obtained a copy. Thoroughly melancholy in its sound through the use of Jazz chords, Mompou's music is very distinct in its pacing (The Planys are my favorite!) and Pizarro's delivery is first rate.
Mompou himself had the good fortune of living from 1893 to 1987, which exposed him to all types of music, which could explain his melodic tonalities!
Finally, another artist, Jordi Maso, does a good job on his version of the Piano Works, Vol. 1. If you can find a copy (played by Pizarro - grab it!). If you can't, Maso's is a close second. Put this on, and just "mellow out!""
