Amazon.comThis is one of the better volumes in András Schiff's uneven series--and also one of the few still available. The Sonata in A Minor is not at all well known, except by Schiff, who plays it with great affection and doesn't try to inflate it beyond its classical period style. He also plays the late, and very great Sonata in A Major very well, aware that it's in a completely different style than the earlier piece. London's piano recording, usually excellent, is a bit too close-up and edgy on this disc, but the problem isn't bad enough to prevent the disc from being thoroughly recommendable. If you want it, though, grab it now before it follows its fellows into oblivion. --Leslie Gerber
