"Before acquiring this CD I had never heard of any of the composers represented on it. This is either a statement about my ignorance of music in general or else it is proof that music from the Netherlands doesn't get the exposure it deserves. Perhaps it is a mixture of the two.
I have no formal musical education having devoted my life to the sciences instead; but, since I became a classical music convert at the tender age of 13 I feel as qualified as anyone to judge what is good and what is not. In my opinion this CD is worth purchasing even if you never get beyond the Carl Smulders Concerto. The Pijper concerto is interesting as is the Badings concerto but I confess the Baaren concerto is a little beyond my ability to appreciate. Others may think differently and I might change my mind in time.
Since the Smulders Concerto is such a gem I must highly recommend this CD. I have listened to this work many times and never seem to tire of it.
