Seta Tanyel's Finest Hour!!

"This CD is now hard to find-but if you can find it you will be very pleased! Before this CD, the only recording of the 2nd concerto was by Michael Ponti on Vox (still availible, I think).Raymond Lewenthal recorded the 3rd movement because he thought the rest of the concerto was not very good. I have not heard the Ponti recording, but I feel that Seta Tanyel would have proved him wrong. Wheras the first concerto reminds one of the Tchaikovsky Concerto No.1, the second concerto reminds one of the Beethoven 3rd concerto. It is rather long (almost 40 minutes) and has a classical structure not unlike Beethoven's-but with a romantic sensibility. The heroic dimensions of this piece are met head-on by soloist and orchestra. The third concerto has some of the same qualities but the style is much freer and like his other concertos, themes come back with regularity throughout but with resourcefulness. The orchestra isn't allowed to sit back and they also acquit themselves very well. The balance between soloist and orchestra in this recording is very good. Enjoy!"
