"Ensemble le Berger Fortune, a period-instrument group, performs in a world-premiere recording of works by Philibert Delavigne (c1700-1750).
"The music in all of these collections is simple, cheerful, and fundamentally suggestive of folk songs or dances. In effect, they are forerunners of the 'back-to-nature' fad that grew out of Rousseau's ideas-a fad that had France's aristocrats playing pseudo-rustic games. They wisely pick and choose among the various possibilities of instruments as they go through their material The result is music, if not of profound substance, at least of unfailing charm and tunefulness, in a nice range of instrumental colors-as intended for its original aristocratic consumers, jus' folks havin' fun." (Barker, American Record Guide)
