"The music is done too straight-up. Sounds like a presentation for a kindergarten class. Disappointed in the presentation."

"Chile is a fascinating country--tucked between the snow-capped Andes and the lush Amazon rainforest. It's the home of the magical realism author Isabel Allende. It's a land of great beauty and tremendous tragedy.Unfortunately, this album does not do this exotic country justice.
The few highlights are Orquestra Huambaly's joyous "El Lechero",Los Angeles Negros' "Y Volvere",Congreso's "Hijo del luminoso" and Illapu's "Vuelvo para vivir" which sounds like a blend of Mexican mariachi with Peruvian panpipes.
The opening song,"Si vas para Chile" sounds like a cheesy anthem of the Chilean Travel Bureau."El Rock Mundial" is a campy '50s song with Spanish lyrics.Whether it's consciously cheesy,it's hard to tell."El Corralero" sounds like a mariachi song--nothing distinctively Chilean about it;it sounds like it's from Chihuahua."Con Amor" is Chilean easy-listening;could it be Julio Iglesias? I thought "No Me Platiques" was a song about not having credit or ATM cards...too bad.
There is good Chilean music out there;check out Mariana Montalvo, who blends Chilean traditional instruments with the chanson of her French home. This compilation is just...chilly."
