"OK - I'm only allowed 1,000 words to write a review for this CD - and I don't see how that's possible; since listening to this disc has motivated me to write my first review here on Amazon.[com.]Most likely you are most familiar with Schilling's "Major Tom (Coming Home" (a top 20 hit in 1983) yet never picked up one of his albums, tapes or CD's. However, if you are fortunate enough to own his Americanized greatest hits package from 1989 "The Different Story" - you know just how talented this man is - not necessarily for his singing (English is NOT his primary language) - and certainly not for his lyrics (Americanized lyrics don't translate well - just look at Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus" - the English version was awful compared to the original German version). No, Schilling's talent lies in his luck to get great musical compositions behind his voice. From the flutes in "Different Story" to the very Blue Man Group-esque sounds of "The Noah Plan", Schilling's musical styles are very across the board - from 80's new wave to dare I say Broadway-esque sounds ("Terra Titanic" or "Hurricane").Fans of "The Different Story" won't be disappointed with this disc since the latter half of the songs are newer compositions never released in the states, and musically he has grown. As a singer, it's just - different - for a lack of better words. Some grown ups complain that they can't understand what the words are in a song, but if it's got a good beat, then so what? These songs have GREAT beats and it's worth the price. However, listening to the Germanized versions of "Major Tom", "Noah Plan", "Terra Titanic" and "Hurricane" are extremely alarming just because it's different ("Different Story" is the only English song on this disc). However, different is good - because in this case - the difference is the original vs. what is basically a [copy].My recommendation is to purchase both "The Different Story" AND "Von Anfang An... Bis Jetzt" to get the best of BOTH worlds of Schilling's brilliant music!"
