Product DescriptionAcclaimed songwriter and composer Peter Salett s latest solo effort Addicted to Distraction is due August 17. The album follows 2008's 'In the Ocean of the Stars,' which is praised by Variety, Huffington Post and Popmatters, the latter declaring it 'timeless.'
'Addicted to Distraction' is the sixth solo set from a career that has consistently garnered critical praise, with Entertainment Weekly saying his every yearning and pang feels like your own.
Recorded in Brooklyn, 'Addicted to Distraction' is a departure from Salett's recent solo work. Salett explains, I knew that for this collection of songs I wanted the shiny sounds of horns more than the ornate strings of my previous record. Every choice on the
record reflects that; it's an upbeat sense of being in the moment, vibrant more than intense, joy even in darkness. The album features arrangements by legendary trumpet player Steven Bernstein, who has played with artists including Lou Reed and The Lounge Lizards, and has collaborated with Hal Willner on several projects. 'Addicted to Distraction' was produced by Salett and recorded with his longtime bandmates Bill Dobrow on drums (Martha Wainwright, Sean Lennon), Jeff Hill on bass (Rufus Wainwright), Joe McGinty on piano and organ (Ryan Adams), and Don Piper on lap steel and electric guitar.
In addition to his solo work, Salett is a regular collaborator on the films of numerous producers and directors, including Judd Apatow, Edward Norton and David Wain. He has written songs for several films including Get Him To The Greek, Forgetting Sarah
Marshall, Role Models and Wet Hot American Summer, and scored the Cannes Film Festival selection Down in the Valley. As an actor, his many comedic cameos (usually playing an instrument) include Role Models, Superbad, The Ten, and Wet Hot American Summer.
Furthermore, Salett contributed a song to the soundtrack of the HBO documentary By the People: For the People, which features several renowned artists including Bruce Springsteen, John Legend and more. This past fall, Salett co-produced a political video satire with FunnyorDie.com and MoveOn.org starring Will Ferrell and Jon Hamm. The video, Protect Insurance Companies PSA has been viewed by over three million people and was widely covered by outlets including The New York Times, Washington Post, CBS, ABC,
NPR, Time and The Huffington Post.
Salett began his multi-faceted career in New York City's East Village, where he regularly packed New York hot spots like CBGB s Gallery and Mercury Lounge, and opened for artists including David Gray, Rufus Wainwright, and Patty Griffin, among others. He has collaborated with many talented composers, including T Bone Burnett, Theodore Shapiro and Lyle Workman. Earlier this year, Salett
teamed up with Grammy-nominated jazz pianist Larry Goldings for their duet record The Carriage House Sessions.
