Synopsis
Album Description World renowned producer, Grammy winning remixer and Roxy, NYC?s resident DJ, Peter Rauhofer, unleashes a double beatmixed CD compilation this month called : "Peter Rauhofer: Live @ Roxy." Capturing one of Rauhofer?s flawless Saturday night sets at the famous nightspot, this 2 disc gem includes remixes by the man himself (Narcotic Thrust "Safe From Harm", Funky Green Dogs "Rise Up" and Mantra "Away"), Roxy crowd favorites (Wonderbox "Turn Me Over", Laszlo Panaflex "Dance To The Music" and Puncher "The Wall") and previously unreleased tracks (Aubrey Richards "Who?s Your Papi?", Magic Cucumbers "Sex Bomb" and a brand new remix of LNR?s classic "Work It To The Bone"). Four of the set?s tracks will be released unmixed as a limited edition double pack vinyl for DJ consumption. |
CD ReviewsMore soulless circuit cheese from the Borg of house music bikerjesus | New York, NY | 09/12/2002 (1 out of 5 stars) "Listening to Peter Rauhofer at the Roxy is like listening to the Borg spin. Sure, his flawless tehcnicality is admirable, but house music is supposed to have a soul. All technique, no feeling. You leave the club feeling tired and empty. This CD caputres that feeling well." Finally a decent compilation 10/10/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "While most compilations gear to the top 40 crowd, this one doesn't. I love the deep/dark house music that's flawlessly mixed by Rauhofer. I only recommend this cd, if you like your House music dark. Otherwise you will not be happy with your purchase." I like it! KRB | Toronto, Ontario Canada | 09/19/2002 (4 out of 5 stars) "While there is a bit of filler (it is a 2cd compilation afterall), I've enjoyed this CD immensely after only several days. I might be a bit biased since I am a huge fan of Peter Rauhofer, and I was actually at the CD release party at Roxy a week or so ago. Got the CD to capture the memory of the evening. Some great tracks -- Breathe by Science Project, Safe From Harm by Narcotic Thrust, Away by Mantra, Work it to the Bone by LNR, and Rise Up by Funky Green Dogs. Great songs -- very popular in the dance clubs -- Safe From Harm was #1 on Dance Charts for Billboard the week the CD came out.Surprised that some people have given this a 1 out of 5. These must be people who are totally unfamiliar with Rauhofer and his work. For the most part, this is darker dance music with an edge and a harder beat -- not the vocal-heavy, Diva-ish stuff you hear from other DJ's. This is typical Rauhofer here -- and delivers against the expectation of what you should have for one of his CD's. Probably too dark to go mainstream -- but a very enjoyable double CD. Perfect for just cranking up on the CD player in the car on the way DT on a weekend evening to get you in the mood for a good time.Would have given it a 5 out of 5 if this was a single CD -- cutting out some of the filler. But still, there are a number of great tracks here spread out over 2 CD's. Some of the transitions are great -- and don't go on and on and on."
