"This is an OLD album but it is a fine recording originally on the old Capitol FDS label. Even by todays standards these are all excellent performances. Those of you who enjoy orchestral brass will notice a well drilled brass section with a well balanced punch. Two supurb conductors, Felix Slatkin and Joseph Levine. EMI should re-release the Hollywood Bowl/Carmen Dragon FDS series. This album is an economy album BUT it is an absolutely excellent piece of work."
A timely re-release from Capitol's vaults!

"The ballets of Tchaikovsky have received some great, more frequently lousy recordings. Such isn't the case with these revelatory recordings from deep in Capitol/EMI's vaults. "The Nutcracker" excerpts are just as sparkling as one could wish under Felix Slatkin and well recorded by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. The BIG surprise are the "Swan Lake" and "Sleeping Beauty" excerpts from two LP's conducted by Joseph Levine. Both are razor sharp performances, typical of Levine's Ballet theatre Orch. records. What ever happened to Joseph Levine? Why, he became music director of the Omaha Symphony from 1958 to 1969 and was a well loved character on the Omaha music scene in Nebraska. BUY THIS DISC! And please EMI, could we have more releases by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and Joseph Levine's Ballet Theatre Orchestra?"
Truncated pieces, very disappointed

"I was curious about the low price on this album and how they could fit so much amazing music on one disc. Duh, the pieces have been truncated. I guess this wouldn't matter to a lot of people, but knowing this music from dancing to it for years, I was disappointed by it."
