Synopsis
Album Description The new album from Peter Friestedt, LA Project II, is the follow up the critically acclaimed LA Project released in 2004 by BMG. On the new album, his first for the new label Zink Music, Peter has co-written songs with Grammy-award winning songwriters Bill Champlin and Randy Goodrum as well as Bill Cantos, Tommy Denander, Stefan Gunnarsson and Brian Hobbs. Regarding the song-writing on the new album, Peter says: I have written some of my strongest material ever and I have been surrounded by the greatest co-writers and I am very proud of the way the tracks have evolved. Just listen to the straight forward pop gem One More Night with its Toto-flavour or the haunting guitar piece Waiting For You that closes the album. Peter?s extra-ordinary guitar work shines throughout the album, going from sensitive acoustic guitar, slick rhythm lines to blistering solos. La Project II also presents lead vocals from Joseph Williams (Toto), Bill Champlin (Chicago), Randy Goodrum, Lou Pardini, Michael Ruff, Bill Cantos and Stefan Gunnarsson, the latter sings on the exclusive track that is featured on this European release only! Some of the mentioned singers also lend their help as featured musicians on the album, and among the other musicians we also find Peter Friestedt (of-course) and friends like Abraham Laboriel, John ?JR? Robinson and Tris Imboden. Listen to Lou Pardini for the first time performing his US hit song Love Is Gonna Getcha, originally sung by Patty Austin. Enjoy the rhythm section of Laboriel and Robinson, bringing the groove to another level on Cheyenne and Closer To Home. Bill Champlin and Joseph Williams highlight the album with an extraordinary vocal performance on Where To Touch You which also features a trademark solo by Peter. The production is top notch, recorded in North Hollywood, California by Woody Woodruff, mixed by Ronny Lahti and mastered in HDCD-quality by Björn Engelman at Cutting Room in Stockholm. What makes this record irresistible is the combination of outstanding musical performances, state of the art song-writing and high quality production! |
CD ReviewsGreat West Coast "variety" CD Gary Scharg | Boulder, CO USA | 02/11/2009 (4 out of 5 stars) "If you like groups like Toto, Chicago (new), Rippingtons, Jay Graydon, you will probably like this CD. Good job showcasing Peter Friestedt's guitar talent along with some of my favorite vocalists, especially Joseph Williams and Bill Champlin. Fairly typical west coast lineup (smooth jazz/west coast studio cats). Styles range from Toto style rock to Son's of Champlin blues/rock, smooth jazz to west coast vocals to new age. Great CD to have and add selections to your juke box for adding to mix CDs and playlists. Overall the album does not really flow as it covers so many styles, but that's not what it's about."
