"Here's a perfect example of the adventurous creative spirit that drove so much of popular culture in the 1960s. Best known as Jack Bruce's collaborator on hit songs for Cream, as well as innovative songs on Bruce's solo albums, Pete Brown was also well-known as an inventive poet in England's Beat underground. His facility with language & hauntingly surreal, witty imagery is put to fine use on this diverse collection of songs. From the propulsive energy of the title track, to the more contemplative & bittersweet "Someone Like You," to the delirious delight of "Flying Hero Sandwich," to the eerie & melancholy "Firesong" -- what a wide range, and what a pleasure from beginning to end! And if his voice is something of an acquired taste, its gruff honesty & powerful delivery suit his songs well. Highly recommended!"
