CD ReviewsGreat addition to your library 02/12/1999 (4 out of 5 stars) "The Fat Tuesday Big Band takes an honest and straightforward approach to some classic big band charts. This is an album built on talent, heart, and love of the music--which often don't come through in contemporary big band recordings. Krivda and his group are particularly strong in bringing interpretation back to jazz. The group isn't limited by a desperate desire for "authenticity" that restrains its musicians, nor is it so focused on making its own mark that the music gets lost in the effort. What you have left is a well-honed group (and some strong soloists) focused more on the music than on itself. It's a nice change to hear a group of artists who aren't selfish or self-obsessed and put the music first. That alone makes this disk a great addition to your jazz library. Krivda's great work, together with some of the younger soloists he highlights, Dave Sterner, Gary Carney and Mark Kieswetter, make this an album you'll play frequently. Well worth the money and well worth the listen. I hope they make another one."
