Innovative and edgy aren't adjectives often associated with the staunchly traditional sounds of ranchera music, but they're perfect to describe No Soy De Nadie, the first effort on Sony Discos from Pepe Aguilar. The transition not only has inspired the singer, it's liberated him to mix a musical blend that's unlike anything in the genre. Carefully produced instrumentals, thoughtful songwriting and layered vocal arrangements give No Soy De Nadie the polished veneer of a pop album. Aguilar's delivery, however, roots the music in something personal and intimate. It makes for an intoxicating blend. "Se Fue De Mi (Aunque Respiro No Vivo)" and "Miedo" wouldn't be out of place on Spanish pop radio, while "Te Casas y Me Olvidas" and "Un Mexicano No Llora" have the gorgeously weary stamp of cantina classics. But it's ultimately Aguilar's confidence in his considerable talent that makes No Soy De Nadie one of the year's most solid and satisfying albums. --Joey Guerra

CD Reviews

Another Great album by Pepe Aguilar
GIO | GA | 07/29/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I'm a big fan of Pepe Aguilar and own all of his cds. This is truly a Masterpiece! One of his best work to date. I love the songs Miedo and Prometi Olvidarte. They're just beautiful. Pepe Aguilar's one of the best Male Vocalist in Spanish music."
Unexpected but allright
Jose Ruiz | Inglewood Ca, USA | 12/21/2004

"Pepe used to sing Mariachi but now he sings some of that and he also started singing Pop and Rock. That was surprising but his songs are still as good as always. Miedo is a song that's saying he's afraid of being without his love and a sort of energetic ballad in a way."

"This album was rereleased with a DVD and two bonus tracks. The bonus tracks are pop versions of "Se Fue de Mi" and "No Soy de Nadie (Maniquí)," but it dosen't seem to be available anywhere in the U.S. Luckily I found a copy at a convenience store in Roma,Tx. Arriba Roma cabrones!"
