Infectious and ambient

"I think I went into this album with the wrong expectations, thinking maybe it would be a sequel to their previous album Interstate, which for my money is the best collection of driving music ever put on plastic. Star City is actually quite different sounding, it is more airy and ambient than Interstate, but still full of wonderfully infectious tunes that you will find yourself humming all day afterwards. Highlights are the bouncy Orange Roughy, Salvo, In Polka Dots, and Smokehouse. Overall, they should have maybe cut out a track or two and strenghtened some of the rest, but it's still a great album to listen to while doing something you hate (or love)."

"I'm a tad confused here. Are there two different bands that go under the Pell Mell monicker?Either way, this appears to be a band that has released five(5)CD's through out the '90's.'Star City' looks to be their last record they ever put out,up to this point.Soothing, laid back and rather creative.Good alternative 'indie rock'.Tunes that I thought sort of stood out were "Sky Lobby",the inventive "Orange Roughy","Smoke House","Upstairs" and "Low Light".Might appeal to fans of Stereolab,Sea And Cake,Bardo Pond, and Tortoise."

"Great alternative jazz. Good to hear something off the beaten path."
