"Here is Pee Wee Russell presented in full stride. The tone and cadence of the music on this collection is quite warm and comforable. The first eight tracks are studio recordings from February 18 and 19, 1958 and are presented here in clear fidelity stereo with good soundstage and dynamic representation of all instruments. (I first knew these eight tracks from vinyl on Everest Records FS-233) The final 5 tracks are from a live gig at George Wein's Storyville club in Boston on January 27th,1952. The sound quality of these tracks is what you might expect in a live recording of that era. They sound mono and there is a small amount of scratch in the recording. However, it is still quite listenable. The liner notes are short but concise and provide all the vital information. This is not some thrown together, straight to the discount bin package, but a carefully constructed offering. Highly recomended for anyone interested in early(ish) style New Orleans jazz. Enjoy!"
