Amazon.com The Cuban music craze launched by the success of the Buena Vista Social Club has sailed into the global music community, but there seems to only be a few great records trickling into the U.S. market each year. The third effort from songwriter Pedro Luis Ferrer, Natural, is one of them. This timeless album of guaracha music features the earthy guitar and tres work of Ferrer as well as light percolating hand percussion. Ferrer's baritone voice rings out like the late Compay Segundo as he shares tales of everyday life in his country. He's also well matched to back-up singers Lena Ferrer and Lerlys Morales: they add a feminine counterpoint to the robust Ferrer, giving the album a real familial feel. Natural seemingly captures a night of sitting around the living room singing songs after a family dinner. Of course the skill and beauty of the music make it special, even if we can't be there in the room with them. -- Tad Hendrickson
