Synopsis
Album Description New Zealand folksinger/songwriter Paul Ubana Jones album of mostly original songs (he covers Gil Scot-Heron's "Home is Where the Hatred Is" and Memphis Slim's "Life is Like That") was issued in 1992. His issues are those of the worker, the lover, the thinker. Jones' self accompaniment on electric guitar is sophisticated, spirited and very funky; his voice is simultaneously big and sweet, and his songs are highly personal. (From "Song to Jimi": "I'd cry to the blues of Jimi Hendrix' sound / And I'd look from a distance to his whispering crown / Preaching that 'message of love' all around.") His performances are hard-hitting and memorable -- a powerful antidote to the commonplace. Similarly Requested CDs

CD ReviewsEpic one man original folk music 03/25/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "If you like super soul blues music, then you will not be disappointed. This guy is super original and virtually unheard of. It is a shame because he rips on acoustic and has soulful lyrics to match. His voice blends with his guitar rythms into powerful music. I hate comparing people, but oftentimes it's the only way to get someone to listen to something new, so.. If your into Taj Majal, Sly, or any delta blues, then think of him as a blend of them all. Happy listening!!!"
