One of Paul's Finest

"McCartney II is a wonderful showcase for Paul's songwriting and musicianship. The album features some beautiful, wistful melodies ("Summer's Day Song," "One of These Days") that can stand alongside any Paul's ever written. And for those who appreciate the style and humor of "Back in the U.S.S.R." or "Lovely Rita," there are little rockers ("Temporary Secretary," "Nobody Knows,") guaranteed to raise a smile. A home recording, like his first solo effort, McCartney II is the embodiment of simple, effective arrangements. Not only despite, but because of, its minimal production, McCartney II stands as one of Paul's finest albums."
One Of These Days

"Hardly a great LP, MCCARTNEY II is still a lot more interesting than some of the more commercial and sterile studio work he put out in the 1980s and 90s.I've never been able to get past the sped-up vocals on "Coming Up," but I like the thumping pseudo-billy of "Nobody Knows," and "Bogey Music." The instrumentals, especially "Frozen Jap," are captivating, and "One Of These Days" is a very un-McCartneyish ballad."
