"This is a well recorded, expertly executed album of straight ahead brazilian jazz. Marco Pereira is obviously a master of the genre and a master nylon string guitarist.. At first I thought the record a little too perfect, as though he was sacrificing soul for technical perfection, but the more I listened the more I realized this was passionate music making by a guy who just happens to have unbelievable chops. His subtle timbral nuances are about as good as it gets- I would guess he is a serious classical player as well.
The tunes are a mixed bag of originals and jazz standards, including a wonderful suite comprised of several Baden Powell compositions. This guy pulls it all off effortlessly and flawlessly. Multi reedman Paul McCandless guests on soprano sax and english horn on a few cuts, spicing up the proceedings but the music seems to be at its best with just the trio. Bravo Marco! I want to hear more from this gentleman."
