CD Reviews
Jaw-droppingly good sound

"This is a great paring of the first two Pattie Brooks albums, both produced by Simon Soussan and both featuring highly orchestrated disco -- extended mix, unadulterated disco. The other reviewers here covered the background of this disc very well, but I want to reiterate that the sound quality is simply stunning. The best-known track here, "After Dark," has been on CD compilations several times before but this version sounds amazing (as do the rest of the songs on this CD.)
Well worth the purchase price, and highly recommended."

"Pattie Brooks is a Diva who's vocal talents weren't given the kudos they deserve..
This Cd contains the original tracks from both Love Shook and Our Ms Brooks ..Most people know Pattie from her mega Disco Hit "After Dark" which this Cd contains since it was originally on the Our Ms Brooks Lp.That track of course was fabulous but so are Tracks such as This Is The House Where Love Died,Heartbreak In Disguise,The Backup Singer and others on this Disc.Pattie and Simon Soussan= Disco Ear Candy
The sound quality is so clear that I'm amazed."
A recording worth the wait to be reissued.

"I was very reluctant to purchase this CD. Thinking was like those Russian versions circulating around. I'm glad I did buy it. The sound quality is astounding and Ms. Brooks voice sound crystal clear.
The information included in the liners tell us the ill fate of the "Our Ms Brooks" album. Moreover, the fact that "After Dark" was the title to be used in the "TGIF" movie. Casablanca Records put on hold the release of the album until after there was no more talk about the movie and the other two released songs.
By the way, this is the original version of "Our Ms. Brooks." Not the remixed and edited version sold at that time. Proof of it is "This is the house were love died."
With an instrumental introduction similar to Arpeggio's "Love and desire." The song
takes a different direction and her voice is not drawn by the orchestra as in the record. "Heartbreak in Disguise" is very refreshing to hear on CD.
If you enjoyed the disco days with our Ms. Brooks. Buy this CD before it gets out of print and very hard to find.."
Casablanca's #2 gal finally gets her disco due on CD

"It must have been really frustrating for Our Ms. Pattie Brooks to be the #2 disco diva at Casablanca Records in the late 70s, always in the shadow of #1 Donna Summer. Pattie had the look/sass/vocal chops to be a star, but her label always seemed to push back/delay/marginalize her records in favor of other product. While I love Donna, Pattie has her own style, as fully demonstrated on this 2-LPs-on-1-CD reissue nicely done by FunkyTownGrooves, which specializes in CD reissues of "lost" 70s/80s LPs. I remember seeing Pattie perform "After Dark" on The Merv Griffn Show (!) and loved it - it was sadly overshadowed by the OTHER huge hit off Thank God It's Friday: The Oscar-winning smash LAST DANCE sung by Donna Summer. How many know that it was actually AFTER DARK that was first supposed to be the title of the movie and title track, later changed? If only...well, cherish this CD for now."
Excellant package but be warned...

"Great sound quality and interesting tidbits in the liner notes but those who are expecting to hear the original LP versions of Heartbreak In Disguise and This Is The House Where Love Died, may be disappointed. They are replaced with the 12 inch remixes that came out as a 2 sided DJ promo only on Casablanca about a year after the Our Miss Brooks LP was released. While the remixes are good (especially the completely redone, very Apreggio like intro and breaks of This is the House), those longing for the echoed vocals of the original Heartbreak and the almost 9:00 minute original version of This is the House, will be out of luck. That would be my only complaint. I bought this CD expecting the originals (as I already have the remixes and the LP's of both on vinyl), so I was somewhat disappointed. However, the great sound quality made up for it. The digital remastering is awesome. For those that do not have or have never heard the remix of This is the House, you are in for a big treat!"
