Album Description
Japanese only SHM pressing. Features RVG remastering. The SHM-CD [Super High Material CD] format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing, SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc, allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head. CD Reviews

A rare gem
Justo Roteta | 01/04/2001

""End of a Rainbow" is a rare gem. Originally released in 1983 after Patti Austin hit the number one spot in the Billboard charts with "Baby, Come to Me", the album contains remixed versions of Austin's earlier (and much better) CTI songs such as "What's at the End of A Rainbow", "You Don't Have to say you're Sorry", "In My Life" (which in this album was made into a duet with Jerry 'The Iceman' Butler"), "Say You Love Me" (in a jazzier version), plus her cover of "We've Got Tonight", "Iko-Iko" and "More Today than Yesterday"(with a Hall & Oates' 'Man-eater'-dance beat). This is such a rare gem with superior sound as compared to her other CTI recordings. Remember that the songs here were remixed after Austin reached a broader audience with her number one hit! I highly reccommend it, not only to Austin fans but also to lovers of good love songs. For me, this is the ultimate Patti Austin collection."
Patti's solo debut album remains a cult classic.

"Originally issued in 1976, "End Of A Rainbow" was Patti's solo debut album for CTI Records. Although not a commercial success, this album was one of the first ever to be exclusively devoted to the Quiet Storm "sound" that was just-then blossoming. Patti's soulful, tender and at times wistful and melancholic vocals are nothing short of exquisite. Patti wrote all eight tracks herself and CTI boss Creed Taylor obviously spared no expenses in getting the best session players for this cult classic. Now that it's available on CD "End Of A Rainbow" definitely deserves a reappraisal."
PATTI AUSTIN'S VOICE IS TRANSCENDANT

"I am almost speechless trying to write a review of this album. She was just getting polished when she recorded this. She was about 25, young and very experienced. It's quite a shame not to be able to hear the samples but if you browse Patti's name in the music category you will see some of these samples available in the "best of" CDs.

If you are a fan and don't yet own this I encourage you strongly to add this to your collection. The music is light and pretty and pure."
