Another MCA Cheap Treatment Of A Legend

(3 out of 5 stars)
"First released in 1994, this is typical of most of the CDs shoved onto the market back then covering selections by some of the earlier legends: minimal tracks [10] and nothing in the way of background notes or discography.
Were it still in stock, however, it would make a nice, inexpensive companion to MCA's 12 Greatest Hits volume, since it contains five of her "greatest hits" not included with that compilation. These are: Imagine That, the flip of When I Get Thru (You'll Love Me Too), and which reached # 21 Country/# 90 Billboard Pop Hot 100 in 1962; When You Need A Laugh [# 47 Country in 1964 and her last charter while still alive]; Anytime [a 1969 posthumous hit, reaching # 73 Country]; and He Called Me Baby [# 23 Country in late 1964].
Also included is a rendition of A Poor Man's Roses (Or A Rich Man's Gold). This song was the B-side to her first hit in 1957, Walkin' After Midnight, but I rather suspect that the version included here was either re-recorded or had strings dubbed in after the fact.
The AAD sound reproduction is excellent."
