CD ReviewsSteller Mix of Music bordersj2 | Boston | 09/24/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "Patrick Forge is the DJ hailing from the jazz/bossa/dj group Da Lata. The "Trust the DJ" series reminds me a lot of the DJ Kick's series released by K7 where DJ's spin some of the sources of their inspiration and just blend. PF01 is the first of his releases, and it features a variety of musical landscapes. He goes from a sort of UK Garage like sound to Samba, to soul/R&B to experimental. But what will get you about this release is how it sparks nostalgia - some tracks you'll think have a sort of 70's urban soul feel to them but of course they're more modern. And the artists? Well, you have Herbie Hancock/Chaka Khan, Eli Goulart, Hefner, Donnie, Fertile Ground, KV:5 (which features Marc Brown, who is also in the group "Smoke City" with Nina Miranda and Christian Franck - with Christian Franck being a part in Patrick Forge's group "Da Lata") and more. I really dig the KV:5 cut "Lies & Untruths" - it's a Christian Franck remix. Perfect song to hear on a warm summer night while driving on a coastal road. The guitar and ambiance is great. I recommend this release to anyone that digs Giles Peterson, Da Lata or Truby Trio. It's not as experimental IMO as GP's cd's on this label, and not every track gets me,(Forbidden Zone's and Domu's). But the soul cuts make up for them in spades and the mixing/fading is, well, great! Perfect CD to pop in when you're having a mix of folks in for cocktails, and it's one that I play very often."
