Soundtrack might outshine the movie -

"While the first couple of weekends of opinions of this new movie have been mixed, film music collectors who are familiar with Patrick Doyle's work will probably want to hear this. I've noticed over the years that Doyle seems to be equally adept at composing light-hearted music that's perfect for the comedies/young-adult movies he scores for (Nanny McPhee, A Little Princess, Much Ado About Nothing) as he is for the dramatic works that need gravitas (Frankenstein, Sense & Sensibility, Hamlet). You can't say that about every film-composer, and even his score for the fantasy/action film ERAGON was well-received.

This soundtrack is similar in style and orchestration to Nanny McPhee and A Little Princess and has Doyle's usual "tunes" that you might find yourself humming for days afterwards. Don't expect the same treatment as his dramas, however. This isn't Sense & Sensibility. If you're curious about the soundtrack, try sampling some of the selections from McPhee & Little Princess on the amazon site, where the 30 or 60 second clips will give you an idea of what to expect with this one. As different as the lighter side of Doyle is from his dramatic one, its still definitely better than a lot of the music for the last 15 or so years of film."

"Ok, I'll be honest. I'm not a fan of Patrick Doyle's work.

So why would I take an extreme risk and purchase the score to Nim's Island? Well, I don't know, but I'm glad I did, because I have been blessed with one of the best film scores I own! (I own over 150)

The music is so fun, new, refreshing, and just plain fun! So, kudos to Patrick Doyle.

On the other hand, shame on Patrick Doyle for deceiving me! Do I dare take another extreme risk, in hopes of getting more of this wonderful music? Or is the film score to Nim's Island just a once in a lifetime too good to be true never again phenomenon miracle?!?

Well, I guess I'll cross that road when I come to it. But for now, thank you a million, Patrick Doyle, for giving me such wonderful, Un-Patrick Doyle-ish music!"
