CD ReviewsOSMIUM - Not of the Mothership guru4eva | Edmonton, AB, Canada | 12/31/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "Osmium will probably only be truely appreciated by either hardcore Paliament followers or (maybe) someone who discovers it by random fate. This album is so refreashingly unlike any other parliament record with songs like 'Little Ole Country Boy', and 'Moonshine Heather', that it makes you wonder just how much of it to take seriously. It's a very difficult album to find and anyone expecting a rare G. Clinton Parliament Funkadelic-type 65 mins of music, may very well, be dissappointed. First.. there are very few indications that it could ever have come from the same band which sprung from the Eddy Hazel and revolutionary Funkadelic album "Maggot Brain". However, this is a great record nonetheless, it makes alot of profound attempts at making gospel/philosphical comments on life and death... if not in the soul wrenching portayal of the a man's honesty and agony in 'Oh Lord, Why Lord Prayer', than in the melodic questioning of 'The Silent Boatman'. It's not all so serious however... there also the oh so Paliament knack of making rhyme where there is absolutely no reason to be found. Take the song 'My Automobile' for example, It's reeks of a couple of days in the life of a few musicians with a bit of time, a TON of talent, and a 4-trak. It's just pure fun. Buy this album if you have respect for one of the greatest music phenomenons to ever reach the ears of the human race..." I Found It! guru4eva | 07/15/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "Dude. I first heard this album as a freshman in college, and I've been looking for it ever since! I had a friend who was a P-Funk fiend and completist and he played it for me in his stink hole of a dorm room (Sorry Soren, I know mine wasn't any better, and at least your roomate wasn't a Rush fan...). I remember it being a really solid, well done, fun album. Something you liked right off and could listen to over and over. Its always f-ing awesome to hear master funk-sicians practice their craft and do something a little different. And if you're interested in a little trivia, the "Little Old Country Boy" track was used as a De La Soul sample on their first album. Man, I've been looking for this thing for 10 GODDAMN YEARS!"
