I Need More Cats!

"In clear, crisp Spanish, Paquita la del Barrio questions men about whether or not they're listening to her (mostly, they're not) and scolds them for their wrongdoings. Her work is a humorous answer to the mariachi tradition of "those-bad-women-done-me-wrong" songs. An example on this CD is "El hombre y el gato." She apologizes to the cat for comparing it to an inferior product (a man) and makes logical comparisons: los dos son ingratos, reflojos y mantenidos. (They're both ungrateful, extremely lazy, and need to be taken care of!) Paquita's work is inspiring, especially to fellow female singers and songwriters."
