Synopsis
Product Description Ten years after exploding onto the music scene with Infest, its triple platinum, major label debut, Papa Roach can claim its first retrospective "To Be Loved: The Best Of Papa Roach." The CD features all eight of the band's Top 10 hits (including the #1s "Last Resort" and "Lifeline"), acoustic and live tracks, other favorites, and the never-before-released "Just Go (Never Look Back)." "To Be Loved: The Best Of Papa Roach" offers fans the ultimate embrace, from its nu metal beginnings through its alt metal and hard rock evolutions, of one of the most compelling groups of the 2000s. Formed in Northern California in 1993 and led by singer Jacoby Shaddix (aka Coby Dick), the band toured incessantly and issued a series of indie EPs and a full-length album. Finally, in 2000, "Infest" was released on DreamWorks (later Geffen). The album shot to #5 and spun off the #1 Modern Rock "Last Resort" and Top 10 Modern Rock "Broken Home." Suddenly the band went from the Warped Tour to the main stage at OzzFest in both the U.S. and U.K. 2002's "Lovehatetragedy" followed, soaring to #2 and gold status, buoyed by the Top 10 Modern Rocker "She Loves Me Not" and Top 40 Modern Rock "Time And Time Again." "Getting Away With Murder" in 2004 was next, charting in the Top 20 and going platinum. The album's "Scars" became the band's biggest hit, #15 Pop and #2 Modern Rock. "To Be Loved..." includes an acoustic "Scars" as a bonus track as well as the album's #4 Modern Rock "Getting Away With Murder." Culled from 2006's "The Paramour Sessions," which debuted Top 20, are "Reckless" and "...To Be Loved," the latter a Top 10 Mainstream Rocker that became the official theme song for WWE Raw from 2006 to 2009. The album also featured the #2 Modern Rock studio version of "Forever," heard on "To Be Loved..." in the form of the 2006 Live Session digital EP. In 2009, "Metamorphosis" peaked at #8, yielding the #1 Mainstream Rock "Lifeline" and Top 40 Mainstream Rock "Hollywood Whore." "To Be Loved: The Best Of Papa Roach" adds an acoustic take of the album's "Had Enough" selected from 2009's "Naked and Fearless" digital EP. Similar CDs

CD ReviewsDon't buy this album if you want to support the band! Jason Oien | MPLS, MN | 06/30/2010 (1 out of 5 stars) "First off, Papa Roach is awesome and this is a very good cd. The reason why you shouldn't buy this album is because this album is released by Papa Roach's ex-record label and they are releasing it against Papa Roach's will (as stated on their website also). If you care about supporting bands, you will not buy this album! This album is released because of some greedy people at the record label company who are mad because Papa Roach left them." Good music, but avoid this collection Johannes Klaussner | Germany | 07/04/2010 (2 out of 5 stars) "This CD features (in my opinion) great music but if you're a fan of this band: don't buy it! About the songs: Papa Roach covered quite a wide range of musical styles throughout their career, so it is a good choice to keep it (almost) in a chronological order. It starts off with "Broken Home" and "Last Resort" from Papa Roach's major label debut album 'Infest', featuring pure Nu Metal, strong guitars with rapping and singing of frontman Jacoby Shaddix. The next two songs "Time and Time Again" and "She Loves Me Not" are from their second album 'Lovehatetragedy'. These songs already show that Papa Roach was going to change away from Nu Metal and its rap influence rather to rock. The next three songs ("Scars", "Getting Away with Murder" and "Just Go (Never Look Back)") are from my favourite Papa Roach album 'Getting Away With Murder' featuring great, hard guitar riffs, but also show a softer side with Scars. The last one, Just Go, could be the one reason for you to buy this CD even though you already have some of the songs, because it is a B-Side and was not released on the actual CD. You also can't find it on many legal download stores like iTunes. The songs "Reckless" and "Forever" from Papa Roach's forth album "The Paramour Sessions" take away a bit of the hard rock sound of the previous album and show a much softer approach. The finishing songs "Had Enough", "Lifeline" and "Hollywood Whore" are from the (at the moment) latest album "Metamorphosis". As the title suggests Papa Roach now completed their transformation into rock, great guitars, great drumming and great singing. The very last song, an acoustic version of Scars might be another reason to get this as it was not on the normal versions of the studio albums (I don't know about international editions), but only on the single of "Scars". But you can easily get it as a single download e.g. on iTunes without having to buy the whole CD. As you will have noticed: I personally like Papa Roach, but as always in music, you have to find out for yourself if you like it or not as we all have a different taste in music. Listen to the previews or look up some songs on youtube. But generally, if you look for solid rock, this is good music! So why do I only give 2 Stars? It's because the reason I buy music CDs and don't just download it illegally is that I think musicians deserve to be paid for their music. Papa Roach has changed to an independent label a few months ago and this collection was made without their support. No money that you spend on this CD will actually go to the artists! One extra star only for the music. I recommend to you to buy their single studio albums depending on your taste of music, because this CD is not supported by Papa Roach and because it leaves out many of the "best" songs of the albums. If you like Nu Metal go with the first ones, if you hate rap and love hard rock guitar riffs go with the last ones. For more information see this news on the official Papa Roach website: [...]" Great band, great music, selfish label Jose G. Rivera | Puerto Rico | 07/31/2010 (1 out of 5 stars) "Basically they created music that is not theirs anymore, it's Geffen's property. When Papa Roach decided to leave the label, Geffen decided to release this album as an attempt to profit for the last time from Papa Roach. They can sing the songs live, but it's not theirs, that's the label belief."
