CD Reviews

It's too late, Andy
Nails in My Head | 06/03/2006
(2 out of 5 stars)

"I'm not entirely sure what Andy was trying to do with thing Panzer Ag release, but it sounds not unlike the golden age of coldwave to me. Well, minus the "golden" part.

Get rid of the cold, digital sound of the softsynths and replace them with sequencers, though, and a lot of the songs start to bear great resemblance to those of the great groups from the 88-94 era. Aenimal, minus the computers, sounds oddly like Spahn Ranch. I just don't get it, though. That style of music is dead for a reason. No one wants another Hate Dept. album. The various avenues have all been explored. Andy brutally plunders the old albums, though, and updates them for the 21st century. Sadly, the Coldwave sound doesn't seem to work anymore.

There are a few odd cuts on the album though. Among The Few is a crappy ballad, sung without any genuine feeling and with utterly cliche'd guitar work. Not Too Late gives another shot at the ballad. This time it almost works, but the very dull chorus squishes it.

And Mother? I physically cannot listen to it anymore without bursting into fits of laughter.

The last song, however, ends the album with a sweet taste that almost masks the drek. When I Am You is a brutal harsh electro masterpiece that uses the live guitars to brilliant effect, as well as a surprising live violin. The drum track is tribal and driving. The lyrics, though silly, are made up for by the hauntingly clever vocal effects. And the chorus, if it can be called that, is utterly emotive.

So one star for that one song. Hell, two. It's just that good.

If you have money to throw away, pick this album up just for When I Am You. I'd advise just buying the single off itunes though."
Best Industrial album of the year...so far...
Justin T. Schmidt | Bryan, OH | 05/10/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"After going back and listening to the first album by Panzer AG, I've come to the conclusion that this is best album he's made. Why? Because it's completely different from the last album. "This is my Battlefield" felt more like his CombiChrist project, which I'm not a fan of. It just doesn't really make any leaps into new territory, as it's basically Anthony LaPleags [I'll never spell his name right] noise/aggro EBM project. The first Panzer AG sounded a bit too much like it, only coming at a different direction in most cases. However this album goes on a different direction entirely. Gone are the cries to god about what he wants from him, the gothy human servitude and sadness lyrics. But what we have is great all around catchy and well crafted songs. After listening to this album several times I STILL can't get "Machine Gun Go Go" outta my head. It's got a bit of rock guitar sound with his signiture drum kicks and bass. Now fans of the last album shouldn't worry, he still has his aggressive tracks such as "Crash N Burn" "Aenimal" and "Tip the Dancer" just to name a few. So don't let the sudden change in direction detour you from this album. The track list is shorter then the last album, but that's because it's not choked full with filler tracks that bogged down the replay value of "This is my Battlefield". I have to say this is the best project from Anthony. Definately pick this album up! Like I said..best album of the year so far for industrial....at least until the new Front Line Assembly comes out later this year. So we'll see where this album lands :)"
The aftermath of the great battle
Lil' Rowlands | Detroit Lakes, MN | 06/21/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"His previous album (This Is My Battlefield) was a great example of industrial techno that shatters the grounds you step in through the english/german lyrics and the exploration of government corruption. Combine it with some WAR elements and you are trembling through the battlefields in great fear. This next one (Your World Is Burning) was a big change from his first album, yes, but I look at in a sense of it being an aftermath of what happened after his first album or after this war, sorta say. You go through the feelings of mourning (Moerketid, Mother, & It's Not Too Late), through the disturbances of the aftermath (Crash N Burn, Monster, Among The New, Tip The Dancer, & When I Am You). Finally, you finish off the last few lying around (Machinegun Gogo, Paper Angels, & Aenimal) after Introduction OTD. This new album was quite a retire from his last album, but perhaps he'll return later with a full stock of ammunition to fire off another ground-shattering masterpiece. I hope this review makes sense in a way...Just a new beginning for Panzer AG after a bloody battle. I give 'Your World Is Burning' 4 stars for a fresh change."
