"Perhaps Marriner is not the best in any particular recording but he surely does most of things well.You never throw away money with him an this is no little accomplishment in my view. Understandably when going for Offenbach Overtures one goes for fun and sparkling music.

With Marriner you get both and in abundance with scintillating sound and energetic conducting.For what I know the overture "Les deux aveugles" is present only in this collection while the rest can be found more or less frequently recorded by other conductors."
