"I put on the first track of this album ("Tin Tin Deo") and after a minute I was in the mental/emotional state I call "the zone." Few CDs do that to me. In fact, I remember when Art Pepper did his rendition of "Tin Tin Deo" in 1957 (it didn't move me much) and I must say that Oscar Peterson's version is smoother, but not so smooth as to put you to sleep. It's wonderful. And then Peterson chimes in with just the right notes to tickle your brain in that magic way that is distinctly his. "Rob Roy" is a ballad of sorts, but Peterson again brings you into the studio by picking up the pace at JUST the right moments. People have argued that Peterson hasn't been as sharp since his stroke, but I think his playing is better than its EVER been. The jazz maturity, the orginal tunes (mostly) are all on this album in 20 bit digital sound. I've had this CD for a week now and I've played it so much I know it note for note from start to finish. Excellent, serious jazz material. A keeper. And by the way, Roy Hargrove ain't too shabby."
