CD Reviews

Esencial, specially if you live in Asia
Marcos | California, USA | 01/20/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Maybe it's because they were the breakout band for Salsa in Japan, and Asia. These guys get played all the time in Asia, I have heard their music not only in Japan, but also in Singapore. So if you live in Asia, plan on going there, or you want to hear a band they listen this is a good start.

Their music at times sounds more Puertorican than the Puertoricans themselves, because they play at the same relaxed tempo as the islanders, and implement Bomba and Plena sounds into many of their Salsa songs. Who knew the Japanese would follow in Cortijo's footsteps. Their percussion is top notch, and so it their brass. The only thing that I wish was better is Nora's vocal delivery. Her voice is good, but due to her limited mastery of spanish, the passion and feeling is second to the likes of India and Celia Cruz.

One saying says that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. These guys should flatter all Puertoricans, and latinos in general."
