"From high school through college, I worked in an easy-listening radio station. I regularly grooved to Mantovani and Tony Bennett and Led Zeppelin... well, you get the idea.



And there, among the record stacks, out of all the freebies the record companies sent to any and every radio station with a mailing address, there was this two-record set of Benny Goodman and Helen Forrest.



Well, I had to check THAT out.



Am I glad I did. It became one of my favorites. It wasn't suitable to the music we played (not until we started a weekly Big Bands program), but I'd take it into an unused studio, fire up a turntable, and immerse myself in what my parents and their older siblings had enjoyed, four decades or so earlier.



Anyone with ANY interest in Big Bands-style music should give this a listen. As my dad always said, it'll do you good and help you, too."
