"You can never understand how much I became elated when I realized for the first time that I could order this album online. I had the album very many years ago, back in Africa, but I lost it somehow and that was it. since then I have been looking for this beautiful composition in every music store I came across and none had it. Now I am relieved that once again I will be in touch with Ipi Tombi through their music. It's a very rich blend of traditional African rhythm/pop/rock/reggae/blues.
It was the rave of the 70's and I was really captivated by it, eventhough I was very young then. Today, it still has a very fresh and solid place in my heart. It gives me a great feeling of nostalgia, to say the least. "Ipi Tombi", "Warrior" and "Shosholoza", amongst other tracks in the album drive me crazy! I can't have enough of the album. What I missed most was the live performances of this beautiful group.
This is truly a rare treasure. One for keeps."
"I saw it in Johannesburg for the first time, in London a few years later. I still treasure my album and love the music, the narration...It's a wonderful example of the mixture of Pop/Rock/Reggae with traditional Zulu and Xhosa music. I'd have to hold back on calling it 'genuine' because of course it's still a product of the dominant white society in South Africa in the second half of the seventies. But it's very entertaining and if one looks beyond that rather pale story one finds a lot of really thrilling music. The title song means 'Young Girl' and is lovely. I really adore Korbosha, Mother Mery, Egoli, Baby Baby and my favourite is Mama Tembu's Wedding. The Warrior is very impressive. It is a work that will certainly not cease to be among my favourite music."

"I grew up with Ipi Tombi as a kid. When I became a teen I "borrowed" the record from my Dad's collection. I'm 31 now and still haven't returned it! I still have a taped copy for the car and have just copied it to my ipod!
incredible happy music i cant recommend enough."

"Ipi Tombi was a musical show that toured the world way back in the sixties. In those days the apartheid regime in South Africa was in full control, but the group that formed the cast were given permission to tour.
The show has a very loose story line, and it is not necessary to know it, in order to be able to enjoy the music. Vibrant rhythm, great voices and great variety are the hallmarks of this excellent recording. This music indicates clearly the roots of modern music. The title number, Ipi Tombi and the song The Warrior are particularly good.
Any collection of ethnic music would be enhanced by this soundtrack."
