Must Have Contemporary Organ Disc

(5 out of 5 stars)
"Along with the ECM disc "Annum Per Annum" this recording ranks as one of the finest surveys of contemporary/avant-garde organ discs. Hans Ola-Ericsson selects several pieces which give his view of 20th Century American music for the king of instruments. From little know pieces by Aaron Copland and the obliggatory Ives' "Variations on America" he moves on to include little known but quite approachable pieces by John Cage and Morton Feldman. This is not a noisy, cacophonous contemporary music disc approachable only by initiates. This is a friendly, enjoyable selection of well-played pieces on a nicely recorded disc. If you like American music this is worth your time and your money."
Brilliant work by Cage

"I bought this for the Feldman piece, which was excellent, but was really struck by the Cage piece. Blew me completely away! Cage modified an old piece from hundreds of years ago, adding random modifications. The result is like looking at an old shed which has had the usual things happen to it as it ages, cobwebs and structural decay. But perhaps more like a shipwreck, new things are growing in it! Authentic music."
