Oliver Future
Although the band resides in Austin, Oliver Future's heart lives across the pond in England. "The music on their first album sounds alternately like Radiohead, early David Bowie, and something approximating the Electric Light Orchestra on steroids and human growth hormone," observes the Fort Worth Weekly. Formed in 2002, the quartet quickly became regulars at The Mercury (now The Parish) in Austin as well as playing other venues in town. From that base, they expanded across Texas and then the rest of the nation, winning play on NPR's online music show, All Songs Considered. Musical intensity is their métier, but they leaven their rock with accents like trip-hop to create a thoroughly modern sound that still works within the Brit-rock tradition.
