CD ReviewsCome on come on E. A Solinas | MD USA | 08/17/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "Ever since Phantom Planet went garage-rock, rough'n'catchy powerpop is a bit hard to get your hands on. But it seems that the boys from OK Go are willing to take the throne. "Do What You Want" is an EP preceding their forthcoming sophomore album, "Oh No." Good tunes, rough instrumentation, and a palpable sense of dancey fun, coupled with a rough edge that their debut didn't have. Here's hoping the new album is more of the same. It opens with "Do What You Want," an energetic and catchy bit of dance-rock, cocky and heavy on the guitars. It's probably destined to be overplayed on some vapid WB show as a party tune, but it has enough guts and fun to be a good guilty pleasure. Then they take a rougher, rock-ier edge for the second song, "Invincible" -- expect lots of grinding riffs, roaring vocals, and slightly twisted lyrics: "When they finally come to destroy the earth/they'll have to go through YOU first/bet they won't be expecting that..." Just can the emo yells, boys, and you'll have it made. Then there's a cover of the Cure's "Lovecats," which has a less out-there, wild sound than the original. These guys sound sleepy, sly and grimy. Damian Kulash's wild singing is punctuated by spurts of protesting guitar, and a few new-wavy quirks. It's a solid cover, just different enough from the original to be interesting, but not enough to be unfaithful. OK Go still has a few flaws to iron out, but they have a lean, rough-edged style that will serve them well in their new album. Ok, go!" Ok go is excellent sina | 08/05/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "I am so excited to hear their new cd. That's why i purchased this "preview". It is the most amazing cd i have ever listened to.The beat is contagious and the lyrics flow like noodle soup. Awesome."
